About Värmland

During the last couple of years, Värmland has seen a flow of foreign investments into the region. The attractiveness of the region has been confirmed by the Financial Times in its special magazine on foreign investors. The magazine ranked Värmland as the most attractive region in Scandinavia for foreign investors.

World-leading business
With a central location between Stockholm, Gothenburg and Oslo (in Norway), Värmland is home to many world-leading businesses. There is good access to highly qualified and well experienced staff. Business clusters in the steel and engineering, paper and packaging industries and within information and communication technologies (ICT) thrive in Värmland. Volvo Wheel Loaders, Uddeholm Tooling, Metso, Tetra Pak, Stora Enso and Tieto Enator are just some examples. The tourism sector is a fast-growing part of the county’s commercial base.

Karlstad University
The largest city in the region, Karlstad, hosts a young university. Karlstad University is a vibrant education and multidisciplinary research community. Co-operation between schools, researchers, businesses and the public sector has developed strongly and receives top priority. This is most obvious in the pulp and paper industry, where Stora Enso has chosen to base its research resources in Värmland at Karlstad University.

Infrastructure
Karlstad and several other towns in the county, lie on the E18 European motorway that links Oslo in Norway with St. Petersburg in Russia via Stockholm. It takes just three hours by car to reach Gothenburg, Stockholm or Oslo. Flights to Stockholm take around 45 minutes and just under an hour to Copenhagen (in Denmark). Värmland is on the northern shore of Sweden’s largest lake, Lake Vänern. Goods are sent to and from the entire world from the harbour in Karlstad. Good accommodation and business property are easier to find and afford in Värmland than in the larger cities.

A place to live
There is a wide variety of theatre, music and sporting events and excellent opportunities for hunting and fishing. Major annual events such as the Arvika music festival and the Swedish motor rally are staged here. Värmland offers excellent recreation and a high quality of life, and the local people have a reputation for being friendly and hospitable.
