Cluster in Värmland

The province Värmland is rich in natural resources such as iron ore, forest and water. They laid the foundation for prosperity in Värmland.
The availability of iron ore eventually made us some of the world´s best manufacturers of tool steel. The forest gave us unique knowledge linked to pulp and paper industry. And as an extension of that value chain, we are now involved in developing the packaging solutions of the future!

When establishing in Värmland you will experience that we have a deep co-operation between the public, private and academic sectors - we also call it the Värmland model.

Steel and Engineering Network (Stål & Verkstad)

In order to develop steel and engineering companies in the region, the Steel and Engineering network focuses on large complex products and heavy components, with specialities in the automotive, pulp and paper, energy, propulsion, defense and material technology industries. Read more

 

The Paper Province

The forest industry is concentrated in The Paper Province cluster, with specialists in every aspect of this industry, ranging from forest preservation to manufacturing finished products for customers throughout the world. Read more

  • The Packaging Greenhouse
    is an industrial research and development company working with base paper for packaging. Their business idea is to complete the client´s indoor resources regarding competence and technical resources by offering pilot machine trials, paper testing, educatino and other services.  Read more
     
  • Energy Square (E2)
    The Energy Square is a facilitator for commercialisation. The mission is to make the development of new products and services that reduces the energy consumption within the global pulp and paper industry more easy. The centre will be a link between universities, research institutes and industry, bringing together knowledge, infrastructure and funds to the projects. Read more

 

The Packaging Arena

The Packaging Arena cluster offers consumer-driven packaging solutions and services to a global market by establishing partnerships between business, researchers and designers. Read more

 

ICT Compare

The Telecom and IT industry is well represented in the region. Competence Area (Compare) drives business and competence development in IT and telecoms (ICT).
A new triple-helix based test environment with a unique and independent test lab for research and product development in ICT has been developed as part of the ICT network Compare. Read more

 

Karlstad University

Karlstad University is a young and modern university, geared to the needs of culture, commerce and industry. With more than 10 000 students, this institution guarantees a continuing supply of highly-educated personnel. Read more

Entrepreneur from Germany moves to Svanskog

In summer 2010 Bernd Fahje will start up his company in Svanskog, in the West of Värmland. He will focus on an online shop for workwear and safety shoes, but even custom made technical equipments as for example trailers for ATV (all terrain vehicles) or fork lift equipments for the German market. Bernd will even keep running the existing company in Germany.

Passion for bicycles - Dutchman Robin de Groot starts a company in Värmland

With many years of experience in the bicycle branch, he was owner of a bicycle shop as well as he participated in cycling competitions, Robin decided to start up a shop in Kärrbäckstrand. Cave-mex will open in July 2010.
